He leads a double life: he is Jack in the country estate yet Ernest in London. The switch between two identities depends on when he wants to avoid responsibilities and pursue pleasure in London.

Jack’s good friend. Lady Bracknell’s nephew. Gwedolen’s cousin. Cecily’s suitor.
Algernon is a highborn gentleman with little money. He is mischievous and clever.
Not unlike Jack, he is leading a double life: he creates a fictitious friend “Bunbury” to be able to escape from the upper-class society of London.

Algernon’s cousin. Lady Bracknell’s daughter. Jack’s lover. Gwendolen is a woman with great passion and self-importance, yet she is also slightly bossy. Like Cecily, she wants nothing else but to marry someone named Ernest.

Jack’s ward. Algernon’s lover. Cecily is an eighteen-year-old country girl. Since she heard from Jack about his mischievous brother named Ernest, she has fallen in love with that Ernest and dreamed of marrying him.

Cecily's governess. She is severe and rigid but talks of clichés most of the time.
She has a soft spot for Dr. Chasuble.
Dr. Chasuble

The rector in Jack’s estate. Dr. Chasuble adores Miss Prism. He tries to talk beautifully but his words are not always proper in many circumstances.
